432 – Kubo and the Two Strings (inktober day 17)

1000 drawings, Comic Art, Illustration, Inktober 2016

It’s been heavily retouched in photoshop – just to be clear!

I went to see Kubo and the Two Strings this past weekend, and it was jawdroppingly beautiful. I’m a big fan of Laika’s work but with each new film they are outdoing themselves. I highly recommend going to see it if you haven’t already.

I was especailly gripped by the sisters’ characters, so I thought I’d try my hand at one of them for inktober.

First, the pencils:

Then the inks:

And then some extra playing around in Photoshop, because I wasn’t happy with it. I wanted to see on-screen what I had in my head when I was drawing:

By no means a perfect job because it’s literally just an experiment, but that’s definitely more what I had in mind.

Hope you’re doing well!

Cat

  1. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I watched a “behind the scenes” video on it, and my goodness, saying I was amazed by the amount of effort that went into creating it is a massive understatement!
